Hi Guys
I recently noticed that I have afew red looking plants growing underneath the water in the shallows. I'd try to put some pics in, but I'm really computer challenged at this stuff. It kinda looks like a small peacock feather and I've seen acouple other plants with this color. Anything I should be concerned about ? I have about 1/2 acre pond bout 17 ft. deep. I feed a cup of feed about once a day, sometimes more to the waiting fish. My pond is about 4 yrs old. It has cattails and pond weed as well as (I think) Chara. Any help would certainly be appreciated. Thanks

Does the plant have green but just the tips are reddish?

Not really. The hole plant or plants all have a reddish rue to them.

Photos really help. Get a strand of the plant and clear off any algae, photograph on a white background.

I am at a loss on this one. Hopefully someone else will identify this plant as I would be very interested in securing some providing that they will grow in the South.

Lets make sure its not real evasive. I don't know what I have on my hands here. I just hope it fits in without alot of problems. Don't know what it would do in Florida. Right now all I can say is --Thats its kinda pretty and adds some color in the pond. Just hope its not threatening.

How close is the willow tree to the pond?

Ya they really look like root rhizomes of a tree.

afew small ones. I normally cut the small ones in the early spring. I don't want trees growing next to the pond. their cottonwoods & willows

I believe that it may be Red Cabomba.

Those look like the willow roots that are in the water surrounding my island, which has a willow tree on it. That's why I asked.

When you cut the trees, paint the freshly the cut ends with Tordon RTU. That will prevent them from re-sprouting.

Yes - willow roots. They thrive underwater.

Yes they do look like my willow roots. Before I knew what they were I thought I really had a pretty plant.
