I know this will be almost impossible without pics...... But here goes.
Went out to rake what I thought was FA from the pond...when I did it just broke apart into basically nothing. Got very little out and what was left just scattered.
Any ideas?

yes - a different specie of filamentous algae from the most common dense coarse filamentous types. I assume it was green, or a shade of dark green? Some of the Odeogonium species often have those features.
