I have stocked many a pounds of GSH minnows from the wholesale bait store about 30 mins from my moms pond. Normally 10% are dead by the time I get them home, and 50% or so dumb they end up swimming up on the banks. At my new house I drained the top smaller pond and found I have GSH, they have lived in muck 2inches of water and I have kept about 10 lbs alive in 35 gallon rubber maid containers for 4 days now without one mort .... I just do 50% water changes each day. No acclimating cold water right in. Is this normal in native GSH vs bait shop GSH ?

Bait shop GSH are already heavily stressed and starved. So any added stress is just the final straw that breaks the camel's back. Wild GSH are also used to avoiding predation from day 1. GSH from a hatchery are usually raised in a monoculture, free of predators.

...Wild GSH are also used to avoiding predation from day 1. GSH from a hatchery are usually raised in a monoculture, free of predators. I'm thinking all my stockings from now on will include a 24-48 hour soak in a rigid netting cage. It's hard for predator free fish to adapt to the public pool.
