Hello gang. Here's my little pond:

The problem is the two types of grass that I have growing from the banks into the water. I know they provide good structure for my tadpoles and insects (which are enjoyed by my trout). But I think it's ugly. I'd like a more natural auqatic plant that, while providing structure, also adds beauty. I've tried planting pikeral weed and water lillies this spring, along with irus and marsh marigold, but I don't know if they will win the battle against the healthy grass.

The last two pics show the second type of grass, different from the lawn style. Any ideas?

Yup, grasses can be a scruffy pain along the water margin.

In a full sun position, Cyperus and the aquatic irises such as Laevigata or Versicolor would definitely improve the appearance, they may well suppress the grasses by outgrowing, outshading and forming a solid mat of rhisomes that stop the scruffy stuff from rooting...

In shady spots, arrow arum might well succeed by creating a canopy of foliage the grasses can't cope with
