Is there any reason why one couldn't slowly add Alum over a month? Say a low dosage once a week, recheck numbers, and then repeat weekly until the desired clarity was reached.
Maybe the PITA factor in getting the pump, tank, etc (i.e. equipment) set up every week and then cleaned out again?
