have a pond that is 3/4 acre. had a bad duckweed problem and no aeration for a long time. have the aerator and duckweed problem solved. have fished the pond a few times and have cought nothing. i want to stock it. suggesstions?

hard for me to tell if there is anything in there (besides te 10 carp that were put in to combat the duckweed last summer-yes i know that was an error.)

the pond has lots of turtles and frogs. i've seen no signs of fish.

thanks

Can you tell us more about the pond, as in the depth? Have you tried using a minnow trap baited with dry dogfood or something similar?

What are your goals for the pond in regards to the fishery and how you will be using the pond?

Do you live on the property?

Have you considered an aeration system?

max depth is 8'. yes i live there. i just installed an aerator last week. the duckweed problem is almost gone. i just treated it with fluridone.

i just want to use it for fishing for fun for me and my young sons as they grow older and maybe a few other friends. i was just reading about a minnow trap and was thinking of trying that tonight.

thanks

With that said, I'd look into stocking Hybrid Bluegills (HBG), Hybrid Striped Bass (HSB). Fathead Minnows (FHM) and Golden Shiners (GHS) for forage fish. I would look into feeding the fish to increase their growth rates using a Texas Hunter Feeder (DF125). Keep track of the fish that you remove from the pond, and annually replenish the fish that were removed. Also look at pellet trained Yellow Perch (YP) for an additional fish species.
