Any fish in the pond,? Maybe spend this year hitting it aggressively with herbicide then Dye the heck out of it? I really don't know many options with the cows in it..
Drain it dig out one side nice and deep then a shallow end for the cows but you'd still have nutrient issues??
Kinda stumped on this one.?
I believe in catch and release. I catch then release to the grease.. BG. CSBG. LMB. HSB. RES.

How many head utilize this pond?
"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"
If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1) And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1) Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT? PB answer: It depends.

The pond may have some grass carp left in it, my Dad bought a half dozen in the spring, but about 4 of them died pretty quick from unknown causes (maybe a heron got them?)
I talked to my Dad about using the backhoe and he said that he tried it once and it just didn't have enough reach to really do any good, really need an excavator or something with a longer arm to get out all the muck.
Right now there are about 18 head of cattle and one horse able to access the pond. We have had as many as 45 but that makes for a tough winter.
I found a couple online fish stores with blue tilapia fingerlings which after shipping work out to about .10 per. Is there a forum preferred place to order these from?
I looked the pond over again and the FA isn't really a problem right now, it is mostly the duckweed.

Ziggy....check your state laws on Tilapia, I believe you will find they are not an option in "open water" in NY.

I'd be willing to bet that once you got rid of the DW, then FA will be the problem.

I think 19 head in and around that pond might make for some tough, continuous conditions to get a handle on...excess nutrients, muddy stirred up water, and erosion into the pond where the animals access it the most. It's very difficult to have a clean pond that doubles as a watering hole. Not saying it can't be done, but it will be a never-ending struggle

I agree. The pond could be fenced, with just one area to allow the animals access to the water but not access to the whole pond, but it sounds like a choice has to be made. I think it will be a continual problem that has no solution if the animals aren't limited from using the pond.
1) live with the green pond 2) whack back the DW and FA, but live with the continual maintenance problem, and when it's not there, have a turbid pond. 3) Fence off the pond and give the animals water tanks to drink out of.

Well we can't buy Blue Tilapia or Sonar due to NY laws, looks like we will just deal with the green stuff..
