Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations Smb and hsb shipped?

I remember seeing someone having smb shipped overnight to them, but cannot locate the post

If anyone has done this before, please let me know

Also, if anyone has any idea of fisheries near me that would supply hsb/smb/yp please let me know. This far no hits


The earliest I would do this would be the fall, looking to do something different than the typical southern pond. Will also have res and of course the forage base but I got those covered

I am very interested to see if you have luck with the SMB and YP, Not sure of a place to get them. I have always wanted to try these as well.
I can help you get a few mangrove snapper and or flounder if you want a few extra bonus fish. They should survive most Gville winters.

Hartley's in KS, I believe, used to ship SMB, but I'm not sure if they still do.

You might go through a couple of tries before you get some smallies to take in FL.

AaronM got some nice smallies to grow and reproduce in AZ, but he had a complex water system going.

Would it be best to try to get the YP and SMB going before adding the HSB as they might compete with them while they are small. It seems you could add some HSB once you get a feel of how the SMB are doing. I am thinking with good airation system you might have a chance.
Are you considering fresh water shrimp too?

My theory is that the hsb will prefer the more open water, hopefully all will be feed trained

There is a place in LA (Lower Alabama) that has some smallies. In hoping they are already fairly tolerant of our weather. I'm going to get aeration going right away. They seemed very sure they would tolerate north Florida. Miami not so much, but I can't tolerate Miami either

In my limited experience, I would say that HSB can be an open water fish, but will adapt if there's not open water, and even when there is open water, they will be in other non-open water areas too. Does that make any sense?

Bobby's idea to try the YP/SMB first does make sense.

Good thing about HSB is that we don't expect them to reproduce, so we have a bit more control.

Grass shrimp can be sourced in from most lakes ponds and creeks in north florida. You could order some online too im sure or go to petsmart and buy some. if you stock them very first you would not need a great amount if they could reproduce a little while with out predators I would think. Aslo, Are you going to try eel grass or any specific vegitation?
