I spent 30 years as an IT headhunter and never saw a job order that didn't include "Good written and oral communication".

Now, I do resume writing/career coaching and pay very close attention to sentence structure, proper wording, etc. I also create a marketing document from a job hunters chronological record of their employment history. I probably review 3 resumes per week and find very few that I would send out. I recently butchered and reworked a business proposal for a medium sized company. The CEO was smart enough to realize that, in his words, he was a much better BS slinger than written communicator.
