I have wanted to look for these for a long time. I need to find somewhere around here they may grow.

What surroundings should I be looking for that may give the morels a chance to grow?

Around my place dead elms are a great place. Stands of maple and water oak are good too.

I found some false morels in my backyard of our new house. I was excited at first then realized what I had. Just glad we did not decide to take a chance and eat them.

Yes, around dead elm trees is the best... Also like said other dead or decaying trees, like ash, maple and oaks...South facing slopes early or places that rid themselves of leaves on the floor of the woods. Green is good...As the season progresses, areas of heavier vegetation, but those areas require a good schrooming stick and lots of patience..

There are lots of good books and forums, but it is best to find someone in your area that can show you the ropes. Even if it allowing them to hunt your ground to show you.. Pretty much guarantee they aren't going to take you out to their spots!!!

Does anyone one on here sell them or just pick for personal use?

Selling/giving away for me depends on how the season goes...

As mentioned I used to take my first find every year to my Grandma...I also have a couple of people I do some horse trading with for fresh asparagus or as a thank you for letting me hunt their ground...

This year appears to be shaping up to be great, so if time allows and I can get out a couple of times next week when the getting is good I might have an idea...Don't want to let the cat out of the bag until I can make it happen...

This will be the best week I have a feeling. 70degrees during day and 50s at night.

I've looked but haven't found any yet. Temps are there, but it's too dry. Haven't had rain in a week.

Finally found some Sunday afternoon. Not a lot, and they weren't big, but we're having a couple warm ups this week along with rain, so I'm thinking this weekend is as promising as any.

Better than I have done in a while, about 350 this year - including 50 big Blondes this afternoon. It's almost done, though. It's been dry and hot for the last week, with 103 on Tuesday! Craziness, not good for fostering Morels.

Found a new spot along the Platte this year - did very well. Have a few "action" photos...

114 in two hours is a new record for me.

Very impressive! I haven't had a season like that in a LONG time.

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

Google Morels.com and there will probably be a forum for your state, click it and ask the locals. One big draw back is all the pics of all the other fortunate ones that always get my taste buds dancin. Thank you very much TJ. My best shroom story is one spring several yrs ago I found a little over two poundsof fatty Yellows. My daughter had moved to Nashville TN and had'nt found a single one for three yrs. I boxed those two lbs up and overnight UPS em to her. When I got home there was a message thankin "the coolest pop in the world". That made me feel like I actually got it right for a change.

Congrats. This was the worst season here ever. Something's afoot w/our morels. For the last few years, nobody finds them where they've traditionally been, but they are finding a few in otherwise strange places. Regardless, people are finding fewer and fewer.
