It's not often that a plan works for me, but I am thrilled w/the growth of my HBG and the overall progress of my pond. Just stocked as one inchers last September, some of these HBG are already pushing 5 inches, and just this week was I able to get them to take feed. Perhaps the mild winter helped, but I had no idea they grew so fast. I'm assuming growth will be much slower from this point?? I'm also amazed at the amount of fatheads. I've got 10 pallets and some cedars staked, and already the pond is teeming w/these guys. I can't wait to get the walleyes in this fall and the HSB next spring. Thank you, PondBoss!! I can't begin to tell you all how much your knowledge and experience has helped.

My HBG grow very quickly to about the 8-8 1/2 inch mark, then slow down.
And I agree on loving the HSB....I stocked another 30 last night.
"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"
If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1) And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1) Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT? PB answer: It depends.

BG grow that way as do RES. Fast length and height growth up to hand size at which point they start adding bulk (thickness). I suspect it is a genetic survival mechanism. Length and spine height reduce predation and thus increase survival. That trait must pass to HBG.
