Can anyone id the weed seen at http://www.frankpinkston.com/haddock/images/weed.jpg Its low growing in mucky areas around my pond, the pond perimeter and has runners extending out 6 inches into the pond. The seed head is tri-angular. The leaf pattern is alternating not opposite. Thanks for the help everyone.

Looks like scraggly smartweed with the leaves and jointed, slightly purple tinged stalks. If it is smartweed, it is not very healthy looking.
