Hello. We put in a 1.5 acre pond with avg depth about 8ft about 2 years ago. Currently no aeration. I use aquashade. Stocked with LMB, BG, YP and FHM. I also just added a couple Amurs. This spring for the first time I'm seeing string moss along some of the sides esp where water is more stagnant. Like to fish but also have 4 kids who use this religiously as swimming hole.

I read some of the algae posts but am confused what to do. Maybe spot treat with lime or cutrine but not sure exactly what or where I should get it as I'm in central OH.

I've added a pic as an attachment. Thanks for your help!

Algae is there because of nutrients in the water (fish poop, etc.) You could either stock Tilapia at the rate of 40# per surface acre, or treat with Cutrine Granules for water deeper than 3' and Cutrine Ultra or Cutrine Plus (liquids) for water shallower than 3'. If going the chemical route, plan on treating every 5-6 weeks or so. Grass Carp don't really like to eat FA.

Thanks for the info. I think I will go the cutrine plus route. From reading on this in the forum not sure what amounts you'd recommend for mixing? Also, should I use a suffocant to make sure it "sticks"?

If you read the label when you get it, it will give you mixing rates. Yes, I'd use a surfactant with Cutrine Plus. Or, just purchase Cutrine Ultra, which already has the surfactant in it.

I wouldn't treat more than 1/4 to 1/3 of the pond at any one time. Wait 4-7 days and treat another area. If there is a lot of algae, killing it all at once might cause a DO crash in the pond.
