Chara is not a bad plant if it is not too excessively abundant. It produces oxygen, tends to stay on the bottom and stabilizes pond soils. I have it in my ponds and do not have a problem with it.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.
