Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations Ideas for Stubby Worms

I tried a larger version of this:


Brown in color, Brown Chubby Stubby for a head, 4" earthworm brown worm. No takers. I had it on a 2/0 worm hook. It floated, and would dive a bit when retrieved with a jerking motion. I think it would work very well when the water was warmer.

I removed the Chubby Stubby and just fished the split worm, threaded on the hook. Caught this guy:




Pellet fed LMB. Tag #20. 17" long, 3.5# WR 136.

It's hard taking pictures by yourself if you don't want to lay the fish down on the ground!

Also caught a couple of 10"-11" YP after something yanked the back 3" off of the worm, one 9" Female BG and 2 of the Golden Trout. The trout are running 16" long now..

Quadapus works great!!! At least...



I trimmed about a quarter inch off the original leg length and took my new precision Fiskars Titanium Scissors (you guy's like Titanium and all that, right?) and tuned it in a bit. The legs flared out as soon as it hit the water.

Got a belly bump here!



Guy on the balcony wanted a close up picture for some reason and was wondering if it was a Bass. He said it was pretty huge!

Grandma and Grandpa, who came out after the pic (lower right apt), also thought it was a big fish.

A kid came out with a stick (a real stick) with some line attached to it trying to hook up. Bare hook tho, and the stick was actually about a 2" diameter x 3' long branch.

I went back to my apt. made him up a package with a bunch of stuff and that 4'8" Ugly Stick Combo. Had my business card in the package for contact info with a note on the back, but he was gone.

A spinning rig may have been a bit much tho.

I'll hit Wally World tomorrow and pick up a Starter kit for the kid.

It just burned me that all this kid had was a stick!

Guess the pond didn't winter kill after all.

Love the quadrapus lure (we have to try this)! That is a beautiful fish! I can't believe the colors and spots. Really, really pretty. And I love the little guy wanting to go fishing with a stick and string! I bet he was so proud when he showed you. That's awesome you were getting all that ready for him. Steve wants to send him a sample pack with everything in it and a SS hat, if that's ok. He said to tell you that little boy will remember you forever for doing all that for him.


.....and I finally can say, we've been working ALL week getting the perfect ORANGE color for pellets and worms (took a while to get the right shade from "creamsicle" to "sherbet" to ending at "HEMI orange"! Steve's a mopar guy). He just sold his 70' Barracuda to Les Baer (who created a "Hemi" inspired pistol) so it's kind of a tribute. I won't get to see the final color until the morning and can't wait to take a pic. The exact same day you mentioned we should make orange, Steve was thinking to himself that would be the next color. You should have seen his face when I told him ya'll asked for orange! So the first pack of "Hemi orange" pellets and worms is going to you, JKB.

...and we made "translucent pearl" worms and pellets yesterday. It's actually a trial run for the "Shrimp" lures we're going to make for the redfish tournament fishermen. It really shows just how much fish food we pack in there!


....and (this one is for Mr. Glazener).... going to call it "Bio-gloe" since it's a biodegradable glow lure! This stuff is so brilliant. If I walk outside tonight, I can be seen from miles away! Got the powder everywhere! We have to send the first pack to Mrs. G and of course, Mr. West in thank you for your support always. Coming your way, too, Scott. And sending some out to surprise some other of you!


The sweet gentlemen we sponsor for Crappie USA have been begging for glow pellets. I'm going to surprise them with some for their tournament next weekend! Here's hoping for murky waters! Getting some RED glow in to try as well. I can't believe what has happened since Pond Boss Conferrence last October. We never, ever thought we'd ever make anything except for brown pellets. What on earth was in that coffee?!? This is SOOOOO much fun. We listen to ya'll.

A neighbor brought over his girlfriends 3 year old son who never caught a fish. If I can get the pics from him e-mailed to me I'll post them here.

I can't believe how hard it is to hook a fish on a 3' long kids fishing rod! They got the gear ratio really low too, you can crank like crazy and the line barely comes in.

He caught YP and BG.

JKB, he has more than a stick, he has a mentor. Giving one's time to a kid is never charity, it's an investment.

I picked up a Zebco 33 rig for the kid. It came with a tackle wallet, but got him a real tackle box instead. Bunch of stuff to put in it too! I remember my first tackle box

About all that is in this pond are GSF. I did see one YP last year.

I'll get it tuned in as a GSF slayer, and the plan is, when the kid comes out with his stick, I'll ask him if he want's to trade.

Pretty easy to clean up on the GSF with the Quadapus! Don't tell JHAP this tho

Well Guy's and Gal's. This Zebco 33 rig is heading to Goodwill Industries "IN WORKING ORDER"!!! It really sucked!!!, but works now!

I did have a Zebco 202 when I was a kid, but China was not engraved on any of it

At one time, the 33 was a great reel. No longer.

I only use Omega's by zebco anymore all others are basically scrap

I really wasn't expecting much with this rig, but was expecting it to be somewhat reasonable.

The reel is working much better after fiddling with it some more, but I'll just get the kid something else. The 2 pc rod that came with this is pretty stiff.

This pond is close to 600' long and about 7/10 acres. Approx. 8' deep thru the center, lengthwise. Full of GSF. It also has quite a minnow population, but haven't checked out what. I was thinking of tossing in some CC, and maybe a few LMB. It's never been stocked, so what's in there came from wherever. Management don't care if I toss some in.

No luck with a Blood Red Quadapus, but put the Chartreuse on, and Bingo!

Those look like they have a lot of Pumpkinseed in them.

People have been tossing stuff in here for years, so anything is possible.

There are some LMB on the far west side of the pond. You can see them cruising around. The larger minnows in the shallow end of the east side look like LMB fry.
