Lots of birds, pretty quiet though. Had three jakes come in and saw the hen deke and spooked. I know better, but still love to see them get worked up, I think it's mostly settled down. Conditions were BROWN, no green in the woods at all. Hard to move in all the dry cover, no morels to be found yet, I'll be back up thered soon to try again. Now it's time for the ben-gay and building fish cribs!

You and me both Scott! grin

I'll be checking early next week around here with temps hitting high 70s by then. I've been hearing it could be a good year. Certainly better than last year.

I've been entertaining basement culture of Morels for a long time...to my knowledge no one has perfected the process yet, and if they have, it's a guarded technological secret. Considering the explosion of popularily Morels have received the past 20 years it's no wonder, they are sold for up to $25/lb in some areas out of season I hear. When my Dad used to take us as kids very few people were aware the Morel even existed...

Some people have a gift...I've walked over thousands in my lifetime, nary a shroom escapes my wife's eagle eye.

I can find morels with the best of them, but like said, can't hold a candle to my brother...He is the one that made me my walking and schrooming sticks...It is amazing how just carrying that stick will get your eyes focusing on the prize...

The nicest part about taking him with me is he doesnt eat them, so I get to bring them all home!!!

Great find!!!

Went for a high speed to my early spot and nothing... The land owner had a crap ton of trees girdled so things have changed, but it still looks good... Hope the extra sunlight doesn't change things..

Omaha, If that dime was a little older and dirtier, I doubt if I could have spotted it in your picture (what shroom?).

Terrible year for shrooms round' these parts. The ground is just too cold.

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

Wait a couple of days, it's supposed to be in the low 70's early next week (followed by another cold snap).

I have the same problem around my house some of my best spots are throwing me blanks. I head 70 miles west I'm finding them everyday like I'm in a different season totally different stage of season in the woods.. Although I heard someone found a few in the same county as my house so if we can get some overnight warmth things will turn on very quickly..

I must have walked 5-6 miles this morning, in the rain, and this is all I found:

And I'm not suggesting that Hoosier morels are any more difficult to find than those in other states, but on the other hand, ours have been known to employ stealth tactics....... (I was so impressed with the camouflage that I left this one alone!)

Your day's find is more than I've found in a whole season of looking.
