Ran across a turkey nest today. 21 eggs in it. I was suprised, with the cold weather and such, I didn't think they'd started laying already, let alone have a nest full!

If you ran the hen off she won't come back. If interested you can incubate the eggs w/ an incubator. I hatched 7 of 9 eggs last year.

Well, crap. That wasn't what I wanted to hear. I never saw her until she flew away. She was maybe 30' away and I had my back to her. You could say I jumped a bit - it sounded like the woods exploded behind me.

She will be back...I have jumped many turkeys morel hunting only to see them back on the nest the same day...

IIRC, I read that mature birds will almost always return...Young ones are the ones to most likely abandon nest...21 eggs would make me think she is mature...
