Trout, yellow perch, goldfish, or frog / toad? Egg mass was not in strings, but we only have a little underwater structure and the masses were found around it. Egg masses were yellowish and in clumps. There are a couple of tadpoles in the picture. I am asking about the non-tadpole items.
Bug? They were in a huge egg mass that was a little larger than a softball. I can't see that kind of mass coming from a bug. After a quick read I am certain they are not trout. That leaves yellow perch, goldfish, or amphibian.
Many thanks. I am surprised every day with things that just show up in the pond that we never put there. I never even thought of salamanders, but that is a definite possibility. After reading more and more there is no way they are fish. (Wishful thinking)
See there OutdoorL, I didn't have a clue and you got it right off the bat. Victor lives close enough to W.Va.,you can charge him double. Well done, I suspect you did not come out of Texas.

Victor -- I didn't recognize the individual creatures that were in your photos.
I sure have a lot of salamanders (and toads, frogs, etc.) reproducing in my ponds. I usually only see the egg masses, the larger pollywogs, and the adults. I know that I sure have a lot of salamanders living and breeding in my ponds. So, I would expect you would have about the same critters as me.

Two points of trivia:
Victor -- Lynda and I passed through your beautiful little town earlier in the week. We stopped for lunch and then for gasoline near the "Frog, Switch, and Manufacturing" company. Lynda was driving as we pulled out of town. I just had to Google "frog" as it refers to Carlisle, PA. Now I really know what a "frog" is. I don't think those particular kinds of frogs are reproducing in my pond.
Lastly -- I was once a "pollywog". But, in 1972 I became a Son of Neptune, better known as a "shellback". I'm sure there must be a bunch more here on the site.
Victoria and I have lived in this town all of our lives and it never occurred to either of us what the heck the Frog in Frog Switch meant. Thanks to wiki (and you) we now know. Thanks for the endorsement of Carlisle. It is a small town that is working so hard to redevelop itself after losing tons of manufacturing. Three substantial factories in town have been or are being leveled and plans being made to redevelop the blocks that are vacant. We like it here - but maybe because we have never been anywhere else.
