I just had the weirdest thing happen.

I bought a super cheap little helicopter from China and was out flying it in the front yard. This thing is impossible to control and always ends up in the trees. This particular time, as I was successfully dodging trees the helo got a little further away from me until I realized that it was dangerously close to the pond. About that time the rotor hit a sapling and down she went, out of sight behind the lip of the pond. The helo is mostly plastic so I thought I had a chance before it sank but as quick as I could get there, it was gone. I have very turbid water so there was nothing to see, in any case. I keep a leaf skimmer handy, so I grabbed that and made a sweep along the bottom where I thought it had gone down. I was dumbfounded to pull up, on my very first sweep, a very groggy large bullfrog along with a very large bullfrog tadpole in the net. This pond was completed just last year, right before the drought hit and it just finally topped out for the first time just a week ago. In fact, the area I was sweeping had NEVER been under water until about 2 months ago. It was a third-acre mud hole last year and there was only 1 pair of bullfrogs on the whole pond. It's been below normal temperatures all this month so I'm thinking this has to be one of the 2 frogs from last year, as it's been way too cold for one to have migrated in from someplace else. So what are the odds on taking one sweep with a leaf skimmer, on a one acre pond, and pulling up one of only two bullfrogs on the whole thing! Anyway, I made a few more passes, pulling up a tadpole most every time, until I spotted a patch of orange about 3" below the surface, next to the bank....eureka!...I found the copter! Pulled it out and the battery light was still on so I hauled it back to the front yard, fired it up, and it was still working like a champ!

It's been a weird day!

Incredible -- regarding the helicopter. smile

But, it may not have been wise to disturb that groggy bullfrog. I'm not sure about bullfrogs, but in many states it is illegal to disturb a hibernating bear because they get so grumpy when you wake them. They become very dangerous. cry

You better be very careful around the pond this season. Those big bullfrogs can be extremely vicious. Like elephants, they have photographic memories, and they also have very long memories. grin

Good luck.
