They have just finished my pond a large hole in the ground, estimated 14', This was actually built on high ground.
I have great clay bottom and all the way around, But I have found 4 small strips of sand about 6" wide. 2 in the bottom 1 in each side.
1 of the sand strips in the side has minor water seeping out, I dug a 10" hole underneath it and it filled up with water, If water is leaking in, could water also leak out?It has also been dry. where could the water be coming from, It definitely is very minor not like a spring.

He will be finished spreading the top soil 6/10/04, We are do for a lot of rain in the forecast, So feel free to email me with replys or concerns, I would like to get this taken care of before he is gone.

Should I have the dozer dig it out and put some clay over the sand?

Sounds like a seep spring but is still an aquifer. Water runs both ways in aquifers. I would pack it with clay asap.

what size pond?to be safe put some clay on top.i've dug a few ponds and my contractor tells me it's ok if you have a leak are two as long as they are not to bad.they will however fix them selves with time.the guy next to my property dug a small pond about 1/4 acre 2 years ago and dug way to deep and hit alot of sand.it took about 12 months to cap itself off then it started holding water.his pond probably filled up 5-6 times before it held.in my lake we hit sand 2-3 times in small pockets and water would come in and due to the size of the pond we never new they leaked, they filled right up and never dropped.but as i said i would be safe since you have equipment there and pond is dry.

I just got done talking with the contractor, We are going to dig the sand out and pack it with clay, The pond is about 1acre+ surface water, Looks great I hope I don't develop any of these problems some of the other board users are having. This is a great website to get info from I am glad its available. Still searching the info for structure ideas, Thanks Guys

You can dig into sand vein and pack with clay ,but water pressure could push through or around . Tough to say without seeing the layers and how they lay. If you have good water supply and shed area might want to give it a chance. They all leak but it is the leak you see that gets your mind going
Good Luck
