I've never considered carrying for protection from any wild critter, until today, when I learned on the forum that not only is Sasquatch ubiquitous, he's also AMPHIBIOUS.

So count me in, .327 goes in the tacklebox.

I got nothing for that. Had to wear waders to keep my underoo's dry.

Fishing with sasquatch... I like it!!

And he can run a pump, he may even be ambidextrous!!

Gotta be a HUGE tacklebox to put a smallblock in it!

If you can pick up the tackle box after it's loaded, I don't think you need to be a packin'.

My vizsla just got into it with a yote the other night.Thank god I had a scatter gun nearby,one shot in the air and they took off running.

Dave you can talk to me. I have plenty of personal experience with them. As a teenager we hunted the LA swamps across the river from home. Used Catahoula hog dogs and 12 gauge with slugs and buckshot. Slugs first then buckshot for when they got close. This was close quarters hunting (thick brush) with up to 50 hogs at once (2/3 would be small). You could use a large caliber rifle (short barrel) and a couple did. Rule was stand close to a small tree - 2 shots then up the tree. Side arms were common in case of an emergency. If one is wounded the pack would often attack all that was moving. If you dropped it clean then they would try to run off. The dogs wore body armor and still got cut up sometimes. FYI I have been up one of those trees a couple times.

So if ya take a shot make sure you have lots of ammo!

Ewest, That sounds like fun, climbing trees and all. Of course at my age and weight I may need to stand on a hog's back to climb a tree.

There was a TV show that had a couple of pretty gals that would go out and catch wild pigs. Since then I haven't been overly concerned about it. Of course I have only come across 1 pig/hog out in the pasture. Not going to take pigs/hogs lightly, but not going to worry about them either.

I did have one experience that made me a little nervous. I was about 20 years old and walking to a deer stand early one very dark morning. As I walked I could hear a large animal walking on the other side of a narrow tree line. It seem that it knew that I was there and wasn't bothered by me. It certainly bothered me that it seemed unafraid. After sitting in a tree stand all morning and seeing nothing, I walked past the same location and found a single cat paw print about 1/2 the size of my hand. That got my attention for awhile. When you are 20 years old your imagination sometimes gets a crazy.

With several hunters and 6 dogs +- the entire event (shooting not finding) only lasts about 2-3 mins max. Tree stays were short ( 1-2 mins). You are just trying to avoid the attack by getting 6 feet or so off the ground. Small trees that are easy to shinny up quickly. Pigs did not stay under the tree long (10 seconds)with the dogs and other hunters still active.

Idea was to shoot the big pigs first and hope they all dropped. There was never a shortage of ammo � motto be prepared. Handguns were for shooting down on pigs if needed.
