Saturday was one of those really special days. First off I got sleep in till 7:30 am. That was almost sinful.
Checked out Pond Boss and see that our internet friend George is having his 88th birthday, WOW! That is great!
Then a little road trip to Buffalo, Tx to visit our friend Todd Overton. Pick up some really nice CNBG and some of those Camelot Bell bass that I have read so much about. Stopped and pickup up some delicious fried peach pies in Buffalo and then hot foot it to the pond. Took the back roads for a scenic view on a really pretty day. Released the fish into the pond and not a single death fish in the bunch.
Checked out the garden and the peas are just starting to pop out of the ground right on schedule, the onions looked good, nothing showing on the potatoes or carrots yet. I can almost taste those fresh veggies.
Put out 7 blackberries and 6 blueberries plants. Oh man, those are going to be good. What a pretty day to be out working in the garden.
Finished the day with a great meal, some adult beverages and visiting with some good friends, talking about ponds, fishing and how to fix the world's problems.
Saturday was a really great day!

Everybody deserves a day like that once in awhile. Almost makes the other 364 days seem bearable!

What an awesome day!
And to think we're expecting another 3-6" of snow!
Spring will not get here soon enough to hopefully experience a similar day as you, and certainly one to cherish!

Hi Larry, glad you had a great day! Todd called me Happy Birthday after you "ratted" on being my B-day - thanks - wish I had been there for a visit!!! Lookin' forward to our next Regional PB git- together to see all our friends - should double attendance next time. He's only going to charge us $300 bucks and have to sleep in tents on the ground..... George And, instead of a C&R trip, he'll let you keep all the LMB, bullheads and CC you want out of his old forage pond too!

Scott, you failed to mention the 30 pure Florida CNBG that the new "Free Fish Guy" stocked in that pond - should be trophy class by now and spawn (forage) feeding all the other fish stocked in the little pond. Not worth $600/day - that's why Brian is offering bargain rate for next Regional PB meeting....  G/

Fellows, we need to have another gathering for the North Texas Pond Boss group. I don't see a tent my future so perhaps a gathering at North Main BQ in Euless?

George, I figured with the predators in the pond, not many YOY would survive.
Look at the color of that pond. Now look at the color at his main pond. Why the great difference in color between the two?

Sounds like fun. That Sat out at Brian's place last Fall was a blast. Put me down as "hopeful" for the BBQ luncheon. I will have to watch schedule as it gets closer. Got a lot going on right now between work and a building project in Wills Point. I'm in Colorado this week at a log yard.

I was in Montrose in December for a cow Elk hunt. ...small world. we saw several large elk herds yesterday on our drive over to Montrose. i suppose with hunting season over they know they can be seen again. did you get an elk? Where in Montrose is that project? we have some history with Frontier Log Homes in Montrose. they are building a couple of small log cabins for us and will erect them in Texas in about 6 weeks.

No, no Elk. We were on a Cow only hunt, and only 1 out of 6 saw elk. He did shoot a cow on his last day with a couple minutes of legal shooting light left.
The problem was the drought, and there was 5-7 Mt. Lions in the area that chased the resident herd of Elk back onto National Forest grounds. One hunter did have a lion tag, and got a lion the 2nd day. But, since it was a 3 day hunt, the elk didn't move back to the area before we had to leave.

The hunter is over 6' tall....  I just measured my hand, a hair over 5" wide and 8" from wrist to tip of fingers. That's my hand that the lion paw is in.  This was a small lion, it only weighed 115#. The first day the dogs bayed an Elk instead of a lion. But, the elk was coated in blood, and was raked a number of times on both sides of her ribs. We figure that the dogs chased the lion off of the Elk, and stayed with the Elk because of the blood. This lion was bayed the next day after a 3 1/2 hr chase. When the outfitter tied up the dogs, the lion started to get out of the tree. When the outfitter walked to the tree to keep the lion up in the tree, the lion took a swipe at his face, and jumped out of the tree. It made a circle around the tree and leisurely walked off. The hunter was across the canyon, and made a great 300+ yd shot to kill the lion.
