Hello All,

Like most newbies, Ive been lurking here for years but only recently purchased a retirement property with a 2+ acre pond. It is located about 30 miles north of the Fla state line and about 6 miles east of I-75. The pond was built in the mid sixties on an active farm but the surrounding property has been divided into smaller residential tracts, so nutrient runoff shouldnt be an issue. It has no inflow and is dependent on runoff for water. Last summer it was at full pool, but now is probably 6-8 feet down. I intend to have a professional evaluation done, but I think my immediate need should be aeration and a water source. This is in a good area for a windmill, and I do like a windmill, but what I (think) Ive learned, they are not very efficient for aeration or pumping water. The house is very near the pond, so a power source is not an issue. I can push down a well and pump water from 30-40 feet for maximum pumping with wind or solar. I am also mindful that I should spend a little money now to minimize maintenance and operational costs in the out-years when I will surely be poorer than I am today. I will ask questions in the appropriate forums, but take a look at these pix and if something catches your eye, please feel free to comment. Dont assume ANYTHING is obvious to me!

How large is the pond?

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Yes, about 2.25 acres by my measurements too @ full pool. I was told by the previous owner it is about 15 feet deep in the NE corner. I have been told by neighbors it is presently about as low as it ever gets, and is indicated in this pic I captured from Google maps.
