I know it might be impossible, but if I had to dig my pond over again, I'd do a bunch of research and figure out a way to plate the bowl of the pond with 24" of clay to stop the groundwater from entering and leaving my pond. I'd probably have to dig a well to keep it topped off as my watershed is minimal, but I'd perfer to go that route than to constantly deal with the up and down water levels.
