Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations "New" 70k gallon Koi pond-pump/filter ques

I just finished filling a pond I renovated and lined with recycled billboards. It is about 90' X 40' X 4' deep with a very irregular shape. I calculated a rough volume at 70,000 gallons.
I was given a brand new Pentair variable speed pump that is the largest they make as well as the largest Triton sand filter housing & multi valve. I've read conflicting information about using pool pumps & sand filters in ponds but being I have both I am hoping I can utilize them. I am fairly sure I can use the pump for circulation/aeration if nothing else & would like input on this as well as application for the filter.
This is a low budget project so I'd like to adapt these free items instead of purchasing new. I do not have fish currently that I am concerned about so some trial & error interests me to try & make the pump & or filter viable prior to stocking it with a relatively small number of "plain" Koi.

Do you have a picture of the pond?

If it's free, why not!

Only thing I can think of on the pump, is you might have to clean it a bit more than you would if it were a swimming pool.

Pump's don't like fish poo, but I doubt you will be pulling much in from a pond anyway.

You could make a nice fountain out of it for aeration.

Not sure what to do with the sand filter tho. Just not a big fan of sand filters like this.

Someone else should have more info on how to utilize your sand filter for this application, even your pump for that matter.

I have taken some photos but I cannot get the whole pond in one photo because of the shape of the pond and the fact that I have limited access to one side. One side is on the lot line of 2 neighbors. This side is open in regards to viewing the pond. The rest of the perimeter is inside my lot however I had planted Leland Cypress along the perimeter a few years ago and they have grown to the point that I can't stand back far enough and get a photo. If it would help I can submit 2 photos taken toward each end from near the middle of the pond???

I think a filter with sand in it would be impractical according to what I've researched. I hope to be able to use it with another media such as tiny or ground lava rock. I've read about one person that uses one but has modified the internals plus is using some air injection during back washing to aid in breaking up & agitating the media.

Hopefully I'll find the best use for these items.

Two photos is fine.

I'm thinking dump the sand and put in media loaded with beneficial bacteria.

FWIW-here are a couple of photos of the two ends of the pond. If they appear in the order I included them the first is the smaller end and the second is the larger end.
I took both photos from about the same spot one one side near the center. The photos cannot show it but the smaller end is on an angle in relation to the larger end. In other words near about mid point there is a bend in the pond.
The pond was about 1/2 full when I took these.
