Make some friends up north and simply give ice fishing a try.....
My ice is gone, but just about an hour north will prob be safe in a couple days again...

I would NEVER walk on 8 inch ice - heck, I've walked on 8 FOOT ice and don't need three years to grow a one pound fish..
