I'm thinking these have some awesome potential for cover and if nothing else some underwater platforms for swimming. My concern is if they are treated or not and that affect on water quality. I doubt they are treated with creasote like utility poles, but I could be wrong. (It's happened before).
I wonder how long they would last as well.

Just saw these on CL and thought I'd share!

I'd think free wooden pallets would attract more fish than the spools, especially at $40+

I get the metal wire reels from the local cable company for artificial reefs. I have used the wood ones for outdoor tables. The wood ones tend to fall apart after a few years outdoors here.

I thought the exact same thing yesterday.

We were having some wire buried and I was wondering about the reel.

Fishing has never been about the fish....

Jeeez RW what kind of operation do you think I'm running here? We're talking high society, no government housing for my babies! But no worries, as I wouldn't tell the fish how much I spent on their homes anyway. wink

All joking aside, I'm just thinking from a variety standpoint the shape of these would make for some interesting possibilities. see attachment for some ideas I had in my head.

You could stand them on end, side, cut them in half for a hump, embelish with pvc for a bush, etc. etc.

I agree I wouldn't shell out $40/ea for them, but if someone had access to them free or cheaper they seem like a sturdy alternative to get creative with for sure!

Very creative. Yes they would work and I would use them. If kept underwater they would last a good while. Its exposure to air after being underwater that causes fast deterioration .
