My pond is 1.5 acre 9ft deep with bass and BG. Just got the Gast 0523-1010-G582DX pump to aerate the pond. I plan on getting the FlexAir disc diffuser. My question is about the intake filter for air. The pump came with a small metal porous piece about one inch for the intake. Do I need better filter or can I just use what's on it now?

hk53, If you are referring to the brass piece that will not filter well.See our home page for filter options for the 0523, Also pull your carbon vane filters prior to startup and apply some never seize to the threads as Gast should do this but does not, this will allow you to clean those two filters without the plastic endcaps breaking.

HK53, Ted is absolutely right about adding the never seize. There is nothing more irritating than doing maintenance on a rotary vane and breaking those stupid plastic end caps.

Ted has the exact filter you need for your 0523 and while with him, make sure you talk to him about your diffuser and tubing options.

Roughly calculating using the dimensions you provided, your pond holds approximately 3,670,191 gallons. A desirable turnover rate to ensure proper aeration is to circulate the entire volume at least 0.75 times per day.

An ATI AirPod placed at 9 foot will turnover your pond 1.06 times per day with only 1 cfm of air. At 9 foot, your psi requirement will be 4psi plus whatever lenght and size of pipe you will be using. The 0523 should have no problem doing that.

hk53 - you stated "pump came with a small metal porous piece about one inch for the intake". This part is supplied by GAST and NOT intended for an intake filter. It is supposed to be used as a muffler when the pump is used for vacuum application. The company highly recomends that it NOT be used as an intake filter. Using it as an intake filter may void the warranty.
