Pond Boss Forums MANAGING AN EXISTING POND Fertilization Water getting clear

I have a new 1 acre pond this year. It has had a good green tint, with about 1-2 feet of vision. The fish have feed good, but in the past 4 days, the water has got clear? I am able to see 6-7 feet down. Should I fertilize this late in the year? Confuzzed...

This year, ponds that I fertilized in this area are still green with a bloom. Ones that I didn't fertilize are showing what you are seeing. I don't think dispensing 2# of a water soluible fertilizer specifically for ponds will do any harm, and it might help. I don't know how well it will work tho. Do you have underwater plants showing up?

Won't the planktonic algae die pretty soon? Why would you want a bloom so late in the season?

I dont have any underwater plants showing up yet, but as I gained level as I filled, some of the grass seemed to take to being submerged. In the past few days it has lost the high clarity and gained back some green on its own, not sure why...but I'll take it.

A pond is rarely stable, everything in it ebbs and flows as you are finding out.
