Dave - You HAVE a source of GSH - but you have to buy me a burger in Denton, first. sounds like a good deal to me  on a serious note I have been watching this thread as I'm in the process of adding striped bass to my pond.So open water forage is high on my list. I'll also add that the stripers will hopefully help me surpass the state lmb record I know I could get a record lmb with other means but adding a higher level predator (that I love) seems more "sporting" to me then managing the pond heavily(as in adding heavy forage). with that said what about the lowly yellow perch?

YP are not considered an open water fish. Definately bottom and weed/structure oriented if weeds are present. HSB would adapt to searching for YP near the bottom.

I'm just going to have to move south.
The south has so many more options for forage. It really is a little unfair. I mean, threadfin shad alone make the move worth while LOL.
Reality is constantly ruining my life.

Are you adding HSB or pure striped bass? I wonder how much true striped bass would help keep LMB populations in check. I tend to think, as a mostly open water predator they wouldn't help that much. Now maybe they could be useful in keeping a gizzard shad population controlled.

I'm going to be adding pure striped bass.I wonder too but in time I'm going to find out What I do know is how they tend to feed in the wild from fishing for them over the years and gizzard shad would be ideal imo for them.Just not a option in my bow. I should also add this is solely for some fun and research,and not a lmb management tactic.With that said I think after they mature and adapt,they will surely smash a few lmb
