Griff, I just checked my map - just a cursory glance from a geologic/geographic perspective tells me you should be in a transition cretaceous/tertiary zone or as FireIsHot says Blackland Prarie or Post Oak Savannah - good pond soils either way.
I drive that route each trip to our ponds and don't observe any pond problems - other than drought!
