smhog Member S Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 83 Kansas	Is there a way to check for harmful tannins? I was just told about this being a potential problem. I had a large oak tree in a pile of timber that we burned. After the fire was out this large oak stump with all the roots was left. Being a newbie I dumped it into my new pond for structure. How bad did I screw up and do I need to try and remove it? Thanks

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color. Without a sense of urgency, Nothing ever gets done. Additionally I do know artificial feed has tannins. If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

My understranding of the problem with tannin stained water is, it is not with the tannins but it is with the high BOD from the materials decomposing and causing the tannins. aka Pond Doctor & Dr. Perca Read Pond Boss Magazine - America's Journal of Pond Management
