Finally after 3 years found some used floats that i could afford so im adding a 12' extension to my permanenet dock, Ill be building the wood frame over the floats at eack end of the dock. My question is this, should I use carriage bolts or deck screws when building the dock frame? I will use deck screws for the top planking because of cost but wondered on the frame part. Thanks

This is all because we dont get any damn ice on the pond and this way i can fish all winter long off of it with the ice rods with skim ice that we get about all winter long...LOL

Whatever you use, I would suggest Stainless Steel hardware.

yeah all Hinges will be stainless as well as all the frame making hardware...I think thats a given...LOL

I'd look at Dock Builders Supply. They have some heavy duty hot dipped galvaniced inside/outside corners that are assembeled with 1/2" carriage bolts. That's what I purchased for my floating dock (still under construction).

I made inner brackets out of angle galvanized steel and bolted it all together with galvanized hardware.. Stainless was just way too high.. Also I put galvanized lag bolts through all my over hanging corners next to the bolts..

I'm using Stainless deck screws, but the other hardware is hot dipped galv.

I used powder coated deckmate screws seem to be holding up good..

I purchased the hardware kit from DockBuilders. All of the brackets were connected to the stringers with 1/2" galvanized carriage bolts. They provided stainless machine screws for connecting the floats to the stringers.

I used galvanized carriage bolts/hardware and the Deck Mate screws. They have performed flawlessly for 4 years now.
