Building a fish cage

Thanks to teehjaeh57 for the plans on making this. As I couldn't find plastic mesh screening I had to settle with galvanized. And TJ was right, wear gloves!

Only a few minor cuts but it's ready to be put to use!

If anyone needs to build one, here's the plans I used. I used 3/4" poly instead of 1/2" and also used a middle ring with supports,,, for more support.

Thanks essup, I was too impatient to wait for an order but my second one will be plastic (won't need as many bandaids)and I appreciate the resource.

I built this for a friend who's going to collect some BG for me from his pond, and since I'm only 5 months into being a pond owner I have no idea what "trash can fish guy" means confused

It is shaped like a trash can instead of a box. Trash can or cyliner fish cages are thought by some to be better so fish do not bunch up in corners as in a boxy cage.

Cage deployed today - excellent design, very sturdy, only drew blood 3 times! Think we tanked around 100 CSBG today, plus some YOY GSH, and Keith got to meet an onery 24" HSB to round out his Hudland experience. Good day, thanks again for the great cage!

Keith added some important modifications to the hoop cage design from the UMASS extension instructions online. An additional hoop in the middle of the cage and also adding a spine along the back of the cage both offering additional support needed. I think this galvanized design will work great, but I may replace the lid with plastic mesh as I'm never careful enough around this stuff and my kids my also get nailed when swimming. Otherwise it's an improved design over my current cages using the plastic mesh.

Thanks TJ and a great experience it was! And great idea on the plastic mesh lid as I certainly don't want the kids (or you) getting scratched up on it!

I've got an idea on how I can do that with local resources and I'll let you know when I can get it put together.

It was great meeting you TJ and I really appreciate all of your help!

As far as the HSB, it don't get much better than that!

PS - I tried adding a picture of the HSB caught in your pond last night but it wouldn't add it. Now it appears I screwed up the original photo of the fish cage, argh!

Got the AM 500 yesterday, fed the new HSB about 6pm but not much activity. Fed them again this morning at 7am and they were eating.

Exciting times at Croakers Creek! (my pond)
