For my money, nothing beats fresh BG fillets, including Crappie. If it were me, I would skip the Crappie, and the native BG, and add some HBG instead. Surprise.
HBG are voracious predators, and with their larger mouths I think they might do a number on your Gams. Their severe male bias should also enable one LMB to easily control their numbers, if need be. Perhaps, that single Crappie might even serve in that capacity?
And, they are delicious.
