Your 5" - 6" bass could be as young as 60 days old or as old as 2 yrs. Very likely for your location it was hatched in spring of 2003. I frequently see LMbass, that are kept in crowded hatchery conditions and surviving on zooplankton, that are 2"-4" long at one year old. Growth during the second year will also be slow if food continues to be small sized and in short supply. Adundance of food and the proper sized food are the main factors that control fish growth.
