The pond dam was finally repaired last week and it's now about 70% wider and not leaking (yet).
The water is rising about 4" a day so it should be full in about 8 days.
It's been a dry summer here too so with the stream being low I'm only using 1 siphon pipe to fill the pond at about 60gpm.

Here's where my 2" siphon pipe gets the water from above a 15ft. waterfall.

Great! Is the water currently about a foot higher than the "before" picture?

Yeah, about a foot, the after picture was taken Saturday and it needs about 30" to fill, which should be by next weekend.
I'll probably wait till Sept. to put in BRKT. from the stream, and maybe some SMB. if I can find a supplier that has some atleast 6 to 8 inches.

Looks great, AP! Congrats on the repair and getting things back underway. How about your little floating island? Did you take advantage of the downtime to recondition it? That thing's been through so many winters and always come back well and I think most of us look forward to seeing pics of how it does from year to year!

Was that plywood and spray insulation holding your old dam together? I just noticed that when I looked at the pics again.. Lol

The island is still doing fine, it's flexible so the ice doesn't seem to bother it, the cattail seeds found their way to it by themselves. I'm not doing anything cause I want to see how long it will last



Yeah, in the spring I put the plywood over a section between 2 boulders that had lost dirt and recessed inward about 2 ft., I then filled the space between the wood and dam with dirt to see if it would affect the leak much, it did slow down a little but the damage under the dam was too great and I had to bite the bullet and have a guy come in to rip up the dam, repack and widen it.
Later this week I'll find out how much the cost is, if you don't hear from me afterwards that means I had a heart attack.

Is the water side of the earthen dam as steep as it looks? It looks vertical. I would be concerned it would slough off if it's that vertical.

I love AP's upstate NY photos! Needed to see some water flowing and greenery...it's been Northern Texas for the last 8 weeks here. My current and future PondBoss brethren excluded, I want nothing more to do with Texas, their heat, drought or football teams.

Eric I'll be putting in most of the PKS offspring from the mini pond hatch, and maybe some of my biggest breeders as they are getting pretty old and I have younger breeders that are growing fast.



Cecil the Dam is not as steep as it looks except the last 7ft.on the right side where he piled on extra dirt, the backside is alot wider and hopefully this will last and hold good water thru the winter with 18gpm being pumped from the stream.

The pond is filling fast, about 7 inches to full, I'm lucky to have a water source that I can siphon from, it's been a dry summer here, but nothing like most of the country, hopefully rain will return to normal in the rest of the country.

The pickerelweed seems to be doing very well. The pond looks great!

My pond is full and finally looks normal again, there's plenty of GSH and PKS coming to some pellets but not optimistic that any of the trout survived after the pond was so low before the Dam was repaired.
I'll be putting in some more wild BRKT from the stream but I also want to try some SMB for the first time, there's a hatchery about 2 hours from my pond that has SMB but haven't decided if I should stock them now or wait till next spring.


The frog population never suffered.
