Food source and its abundance and probably a few other things will determine how long it will take a HSB to get to 6 lbs. Without ample food it may never reach 6 lbs, but with lots of the right kinds of food they could reach 6 lbs in 4-5 yrs. HSB can live at least in northern ponds to be 20 yrs old.
