O.k. First full Summer with the new pond and so far I've managed to "throw" a sling blade in the water chopping at dead submerged vegetation and drop my $$$ pocketknife in cutting a rope on the dock! Unable to retrieve them with a magnet, I suspect they'll be caught on the other end of a line one day.

The pocket knife will be easier to find. I'd go swimming with lightweight cotton gloves on and let my fingers do the walking.
I learned long time ago, working on a pier doing anything if the water wasn't frozen is akin to working on a high rise building outside. Don't drop anything.
