Here is how we catch crawdads. It takes three people. Two to run the siene net and one to put them in the container of your choice.

Trust me there's no slu's around here like that.. Mine are all full of dust.. When i was a kid we'd go to the bottoms and dig a ditch from one slu to the next and drain the higher one and scoop all the crawdads out worked great..

You guys never trap crawdads?

They're pretty easy to trap and then you never have to risk the little buttholes grabbin' you. You just shake 'em out into your pond LOL.

do you have some good plans for a crawfish trap?

I want to use one in a pond we have that is full of them.

I don't have any blueprints or anything, but you can look at pictures of them online. They're just wire. They resemble a minnow trap, but they are built a little differently.

I think that by the time you got done buying the wire, cutting it, bending it, fastening it, and poking holes in all your fingers etc that you would be better off buying one.

If you want to go really old school you can just throw a couple dead fish in a burlap bag, tie it off to something so that it doesn't get dragged off by anything, and then put it in shallow crayfish occupied waters with a few rocks on it to hold it on the bottom.

The crayfish will go inside to eat the fish and all you have to do is come by and pick the bag up and you have them all.

You can buy one at most baitshops for $10.00

Even the big heavy duty commercial type ones are less than $100 and they last forever if you're just using it to catch a bunch of 'dads to put in your pond half a dozen times a year.

Regular wire minnow traps will catch crayfish if there are a lot of crayfish in the pond. When crays have been in a trap for an extended period - maybe overnight- they start finding their way out of the trap. If caught as many as 40-50 crays in a small minnow trap. Dead fish or meat are probably a good baits.

Try this easy net. Put a chicken neck in the middle of the net (leave it out in the sun a day or two) . Put it out and check it every couple of hours. Put out about 6 and work them around.

I have one of the small minnow traps but not sure I would catch any large crawfish in it but if I can determine there are a ton of small ones as well may even be better as I can catch them for bait to use in the other pond that is full of fish.
