I am in the process of digging a 1/4 acre pond. Mainly for cc and bg. I do not have a well to supply water to the pond so it will be filled by rain. The pond will be on 4 acres that also has a horse and chickens. I'm curious if I should use the rain runoff to fill and maintain the water level due to the animals around the pond? Will the water be polluted due to the animal droppings in the pasture where runoff will come from? The pond will be around 12 foot deep

I would worry about dangerous bacteria if I was planning to eat the fish, especially if chicken manure gets in the pond. Otherwise, things should be fine unless too much nitrogen gets in and causes algae blooms followed by die offs which could deplete the oxigen.

I spoke to a guy that digs ponds and he claims if I drill down to about 40 feet with a 1" pipe to water table that if I just leave the pipe in the hole that water will syphon up and in to the pond always giving it fresh water. I would like to see y'all opinion on this or is it just me who finds this hard to believe?

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

They cap it with a valve that has a valve stem and shoot air down the pipe for pressure. Will work for along time. May have repressure once in awhile.

How high does the table need to be for that to work? I was told the first water table here is around 40 foot. Do you know is that is to deep? Thanks

How high does the table need to be for that to work? I was told the first water table here is around 40 foot. Do you know is that is to deep? Thanks Sounds to deep. Around here they use a sledge hammer to drive the sand point. They add pipe sections as they go. Most are probably less the 20 feet.

I'm a newbie and not a pro, but will the experts agree: Well water has very low TDO so be prepared to aerate.
