This may be a crazy question but hope y'all can help. When a pond is built with levees around it is the pond dept measured from the top of the new levees or from the original ground level. I'm digging a hole 8 foot deep and building 4 foot levees around it. Would the pond be considered 8 or 12 feet deep? Thank for your input.

It depends on how much water is in it. It sounds like this could be 12 if to the top of the levees.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I always measure a pond depth from the water surface to the deepest spot.
My way of thinking is that if you want a pond that is, say, 20' deep, but the water leaks out at anything greater than 6' water depth, there's no way that I could consider it a 20' deep pond......

I agree with you Esshup. You just said it better than I did. The depth of the water in the deepest part is the pond depth.

do you plan on the water going to the top of the leeves, or are they for other flood control. and does the guy doing the leeves, have the experience to mix and pack the dirt to not get seeps?
I think you have more questions???
very direct answer esshup!
Water is the basis of all life, by design!
