Ive seen strip mines around here with extremely low PH to the point of no living fish. Typically is pretty easy to sweeten the water with some lime, but your situation with black clay and Bocomo talking about the liberation of Fe2S and metal ion contamination possibilities sounds like you want to be a little cautious......send the intern in to get the future water samples.....
