It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Or your typing, perhaps. Still, beautiful fish, and we knew what you meant.

No pond yet, not even land. But working on it.

Just measured again it's grown to 21". Clearly a new world record!
My pond is dominated by stunted bg population so whenever I manage a bg exceeding 8" it's a pleasant surprise.

Naw, in Texiz we measure using a yard stick.

Naw, in Texiz we measure using a yard stick. Here in Indiana, we don't count a fish if we can't "step it off" for a quick measurement...........
"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"
If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1) And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1) Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT? PB answer: It depends.

This is our third HSB over 10lbs this year. It's been a great year for HSB, we've broken our pond record three times. Another big cat. I love catching these hogs. Nate, That's a very impressive fishery you have going there. I'm a fan of shattering the norms. Way to go!

Holly Cow! No really, I used to know a girl named "Holly Cow."
Dang, Cason! Nice fish!

Both were caught on GSF. The picture really doesn't do the HSB justice. It was a pig.

WOW! Amazing success story...should do a feature on this fishery for the magazine.
How large were your GSF for bait? Wondering the gape capability of a HSB that size. Thinking 4-5" GSF can be managed?

I was looking at a 29 inch Hybrid striped bass that weighed 19pounds. They seem to get much more round after about 24 inches. I am still wondering what is going to be the limit in a pond or small lake?

what was the length on the HSB? Great fish! I didn't get to measure it James, or weigh it. I guessed it to be in the 10-12 pound range. It was easily our heaviest and longest HSB to date, and we've caught two over 10 pounds this year. My best guess on age is that it was from our original stocking in 2004, though it's possible that it was stocked in 2009. Given the size of the majority of our HSB now, my money is on the 2004 class. Very few of those fish remain, but they are hogs. This fish was the thickest HSB I've seen in my pond.

my original stocking was in 05. there are only a few of them left. Mostly due to fisherman mortality. Are you feeding them? Do you have gizzard shad? Im wondering if the limiting factor is going to be how long they can keep fishermen from killing them.

Zep, when you can't find something, always remember to take a peek in the archives (Common Pond Q&A) It's the 4th thread down.
