How large is the pond?
Acid mine drainage, that is about the only places I have seen pH that low. There aren't many species that can live in water with a pH that low and I am not sure there are any North American species that can. Get it into the high 3's and then there are a few North American species that can.
It'll be interesting to see what the soil results come back as.
