I built this deck (the first of two) by pretending I was working with steel, a band saw, a drill press and a welder.

Beautiful work. I especially like all of the finishing detail (endcaps, trim, etc.)... Really nice!

Not bad, but I really think you need more practice to perfect your skills.
In a major act of humanity, I'm volunteering my place for you to practice on-I'm sure that with 5 or 6 more projects your work will be acceptable to the rest of us critics.
Just kidding-very nice work! If that is your work with wood, I'd love to see your welding projects....Congratulations on a job well done.

I hate working with wood. When I order 2 x 4 rectangular tubing, it measures 2" x 4", and it doesn't require me to sort through the stack to find a "straight" one... take that you wooden 2 x 4.

Very nice work. The rail is just far enough from the chair that you can use it as a gun rest.

Whoa! I just got through the Pond Barge thread-guess now I know why the deck project turned out so nice.
I was feeling totally inadequate, but thank goodness you had the decency to post a picture of the clutter in the storage shed. Now I just feel inadequate!!!
Again, very nice projects. Now I really do want to get my dock project going. Thanks for letting me know about the Pond Barge.

One of those looks like Furhead Wheel-Chock.
Nice deck ! Cats can get under it easily. Furhead Wheel-Chock has apparently traveled the world.... I am a firm believer in "open under decks" in the country. We have an enclosed deck on the pond side of the house and it has always attracted critters who dig a tunnel and figure they have a wonderful new home. Wasps and hornets really like it too.

The deck looks great. I agree about the open under the deck in the country OR city. I have never really understood mauve (is that French?). Our siding is a reddish brown, mostly brown. The concrete patio under the deck is a reddish brown too, but more reddish than the siding. Gail calls these contrasting, complimentary colors. Thankfully the grass is green.....

I don't know about French. To me Mauve is a pinkish purple. Pinkish Purple even sounds worse!, but hey, who am I to select someone's else colors. If all else fails, you can just paint it white and be done.
