How long have you been feeding? I takes at least a little while for fish to start feeding. A typical time for BG to figure it out is probably measured in weeks (it took mine 2 1/2 years). Redears may never feed on pellets in the average pond; they are not likley to pick it up on their own. RES can be feed trained; stay tuned for a future report from Bruce and myself on feed training Redears.
WRT feed choice, most catfish feed (I can't remember the specifics on Purina's) is probably lower in protein and larger in pellet size than Purina Game Fish Chow. GFC also has a fair amount of attractants (fish oil/smell) and is IMHO a better feed for supplemental feeding of bream, both starting out and long term, than catfish feed.

trailsguy - one of the things you can do for feed training your fish is put a metal post in the ground next to your pond. Just before you toss out the feed bang on the metal post a few times, your fish will soon figure out that the banging noise is their dinner bell ringing.
Auquapromax 600 is an excellent fish food to fed your BG, much higher in protien than std. CC food. Keep in mind that fresher fish food is better than old fish food, fish food can go bad quickly and I would avoid feeding pellets that are past it's freshness date.

Oh I will have to get the conditioning going right away I have a rebar post in the ground already for the feeding circle. Now I wonder if Auquapromax is available in my area. I can get the game fish chow local.

TG, when I first stocked, they wouldn't eat. I finally realized that I was feeding where I wanted the fish to be and they just weren't there. So, I started experimenting and they started eating. Now, I can feed just about anywhere and they will show up.
OK, that is my main pond. I have a very small forage pond that I stocked with 100 CNBG and 100 RES. They were 1 to 2 inch fish. I got them from Lusk the day after he picked them up from the hatchery. That was about 6 to 8 weeks ago and they still aren't eating that well.
BTW, yesterday I fed at 3 ponds. CC ate well as usual. I got almost no BG or CNBG to eat. I am using Purina Game Fish Chow.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

my experience was the aquamax was prefered over the game fish chow. could have not been as fresh as aquamax. i like the smaller pellets but my feedstore says he has to order from factory (indiana?) cause his supplier was only carrying the larger ones. so it was a fresh story. get more pellets for the money-more strikes with the smaller pellets. didnt seem to much matter to the cc, they such up handfulls of the small pellets. i liked aquamax better than the cargill (aquafeed?). if i carry a bucket and hand scoop the whole pond will come to life.
