I have problems with five star moles and have had them twice now bore right through a 7 foot dike between two ponds.
I've been told to use a bait they looks like an earthworm that they eat and it kills them. I haven't done so yet.
Don't underestimate moles as they can bore 10's of feet in one day. That said, fortunately they don't bore horizontally more than 3 or 4 feet below the surface so a complete dam failure is unlikely.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.
