Pond Boss Forums POND CONSTRUCTION Selecting a site Wells Dug- How high does water need to be to test

Hey ya'll. Just got great news. Had 2 wells dug on property...one for pond at 80 feet producing 25 gpm and another for house at 50 feet for 12 gpm. Now I am going to get the pond built and tested for leaks before we move ahead with the house building. My question is....this lake will have an average depth 0f 6 feet- 2 being shallowest and 11 feet in front of levee. How much of it do I have to fill before I can tell it is not going to have any major leaks and continue building the actual house. The house depends on the pond for geothermal and views so it just wont work without a good non-leaky pond. I was hoping to give it 2 months after it is built for a couple rains to test it some before going ahead with house building. But the big issue is that I wont have any power to the wells for a while and must depend on rainfall.

It depends on the size of your pond. The fuller, the better. Most leaks seem to be closer to a full pool.

Ditto. The only way to tell for sure is to have it at full pool. Water has weight, and what might not leak at 1/2 full might leak at full pool due to the extra weight of the water in the pond
