well its a little over an acre and when I bought the place it was stocked from another pond. Bass and BG, It was about 9 years old. Over the last five years I have put Blc Crappy , albino cats , red ear, hybrid Gills, and yellow perch. I have been happy with it so far. I just am always looking for improvements.

Cecil Baird is in Ligonier, I think he's closer to you than I am. I'm about 12 miles W of Plymouth, Indiana.

Keep an eye on the crappies. They have a "boom or bust" spawning cycle, and require a lot of management in a pond. Read management as lots of culling.

Frozengator, check the archives section on the different species in your pond. Do you feed or aerate?

I feed sometimes, I am looking into a windmill. Fish have been nice and healthy so, I think they eat good.

If you can swing it, go with an electric aerator. Had a winterkill on a pond this late Spring due to cloudy days and no wind. Other ponds with electric aeration had no problems.

Ok some questions: On LMB I see on here people say they have short bass and skinny. Well I have a lot of short bass but I also know I have a couple of bigg'ns too. I have seen Big Bass take out smaller ones. I don't think any are skinny. Well except one that had a hunch back. Its still in there too. Scott you say electric aerator, but I like the look of the windmill. I don't need to aerate 24/7 right???? And besides I don't want an open hole in the ice. I have a lab that I think is a few bricks short. If you know what I mean. I am just not 100% on which brand I want. I'm leaning more to the Morgan Winds one. I like the look of it. And I can powder coat the tips of the fins myself. LOL Perks of being were I work. And feeding I only feed once and a wile. I am lucky to go through a 50# bag a year. I have fat fish but not frank'n fish. LOL Not making fun, those are some nice you have Bruce Condello. I would like to know if you feed and how much?

The downside to a windmill aerator is that you won't have air when you need it the most.

For the winter, the diffuser needs to be moved, or switched to a 2nd diffuser in shallower water, placed at roughly 1/2 to 1/3 the total pond depth to leave a warm water (relatively speaking) haven for the fish. I like to have the winter diffuser close enough to shore so that it thaws the ice all the way to shore, or close enough so anything that gets in can get back out. I almost lost my 2 Springer Spaniels one year to them going after a pair of geese and not being able to get out.
It took 20 minutes in a warm shower for them to stop shivering.

My suggestion is that if the pond is within 1,000 feet of electric, run an electric compressor, large dia. tubing in the ground to the pond, then a manifold box at the pond to go to the different diffusers. Self-weighted tubing in the water too.
